SouthSend was created when Ally Gavin, who has played at Southend RFC since he was a boy, son Sandy Gavin was in the mini & youth .
Sandy reached the age where they started contact rugby, which he wouldn't be able to do. So rather than him withdrawing him Alli approached Wilco, another long-time player, and a few others about starting up a training session for kids with additional needs. Purely based on having fun which they do on a weekly basis.
They started this section of the club in August 2022. They love it. The kids love it. The parents love it. Two of the kids have gone in to mainstream mini & youth sides. In two weeks’ time they are entering their first tag rugby competition. Long may it continue. 🏉
