Anyone for lunch?
The SRFC XV Luncheon Club was formed in 1982 and continues to this day. Originally
with 15 members (the clue is in the name!), the membership has since varied in number
to a peak of around 36 but currently sits at 26, so we have plenty of space for new
members!
The purpose of the club being both camaraderie and the raising of funds for the
maintenance of the clubhouse infrastructure. Look around you at the clubhouse and you
will see many of our previous projects. Some of these are identified as being funded by
the club; for example, the honours boards, electronic and indoor scoreboards; whilst
others, such as the new 98” TV, new container for the M&Y, picnic benches on the patio,
Gentlemen’s toilet refurbishments and security shutters are not. However, funding for
all these is either partially or wholly from the XV Luncheon Club.
The club raises approximately £3,000 per year solely for the benefit of specific capital
projects at Southend Rugby Club and not for general club funds. To this end since 1995
it has raised close to £75,000, with our most recent donation this year providing the
new and imposing 98” Television above the stairs.
The XV Luncheon Club meets for six lunches during the rugby season also holds two
additional events per year: a ‘Ladies night’ in May and an ‘Al Fresco’ lunch in June.
Members are both welcome and encouraged to bring guests to all Club events.
XV Luncheon Club membership is open and new members are most welcome.
So, if you are free for lunch on one Friday per month during the season, please contact:
