On Friday 26th July the club was invited, for the first time in it's illustrious history, to attend a civic reception held in it's honour by Mayor Ron Woodley. It was at Porters Civic House, Mayors Parlour, Southend. There to honour the club was The Mayor and erstwhile Southend West MP, Anna Firth. Before the presentation of the Certificate of Recognition the Mayor gave a speech in which he recognised the dedication, training and determination it took to win at sport. He spoke of the example the club set by being successful at winning four trophy's last season, including one at Twickenham, as well as gaining promotion. He said he spoke on behalf of the whole community in congratulating Southend Rugby Club.

He was followed by Anna Firth who joined him in her congratulations and said how much she enjoyed watching games last season, particularly the Cup Final at Twickenham which flowed back and forth until the end. She assured us that she would be trying to attend the first home game of the season although not in an official capacity this time.

They then both presented our Captain Ben Lloyd with the Certificate of Recognition from the City of Southend.
