Southend Saxons are delighted to announce that Nik Grier has extended his stay at Warners Bridge.
Grier continues his role as a senior player, playing a leading role both on and off the field. Grier returned to Southend in 2018 following a spell away from the club, including time at Blackheath. The experienced hooker has not only continued to drive high standards on the field, but also taken time off the field to assist in the development of those around him, especially the younger players, progressing his coaching skill set.
Grier said “I’m delighted to extend my contract at Southend by another year , this club has always and will always be my club . My parents love the club as well. Even though I’m 38 I don’t feel it and still feel like I’ve got more to give . I’m excited about this season ahead and what’s being built , all the boys look sharp and raring to go and we can’t wait for 2nd September”.
Director of Rugby, Josh Ward added “Nik was one of our first signings when we began. He epitomises everything we want to stand for. A fierce competitor who works hard for and cares for the people around him. He’s in brilliant condition so the age card is irrelevant, we have a big year ahead and we feel Nik will play a pivotal role in delivering success”.
The Saxons squad travel to Westcliff on Saturday before hosting Rochford on Thursday 24th, kick off 8PM.
