Lloyd commits future

Southend Rugby Club is delighted to announce that Saxons Co-Captain, Ben Lloyd, has signed a new contract extension at the club.

Lloyd joined the club back in 2019 from Hertford and has now committed his future to the club.

After accumulating a number of years playing experience in the higher leagues, Lloyd made the move to Warners Bridge in 2019 looking to assist in bringing success back to the club. Playing a leading role, Lloyd played an important part in the Saxons securing promotion last season as well as the Papa Johns National Cup success at Twickenham in May. Ben recently hit a personal milestone of 100 Saxons appearances.

Lloyd is excited for his next chapter at Warners Bridge.

“After all the trophies last season, this one has been more mixed in terms of results, but no less impressive as we’ve stuck together to adjust to life in a more physical and more challenging league. Speaking to Josh about re-signing, I took some time to really think about what I want and what I play rugby for. It feels like this team has more within its reach, there’s unfinished business and it’s something I’m excited to be a part of”.

Director of Rugby Josh Ward is pleased Lloyd is staying at Southend.

“Lloydy has played a pivotal role in the senior squads recent success. He drives standards both on and off the field and is highly respected by the group. We’ve got aspirations to push on now, win more senior trophies and become an established side at the top end of Level 5. Ben’s winning mentality aligns perfectly to this and I’m delighted he’s fully committed to us moving forwards”.
